Every Dahab diver knows the Canyon and Blue Hole. They also know the bumpy stretch of road that separates the 2 dives sites - impossible for anything but the toughest 4x4s... and also impossible for the rubbish truck! So this year, for Project Awares International Clean-up Day, we held the Big Blue Hole Clean Up!
The day started at 8 with coffee at the club, then we packed everyone into the jeeps & pick-ups for the drive to the Canyon. Half the crew started at the Canyon dive site, the other half at the Blue Hole, and many hours later they finally met in the middle!
A very big thank you to everyone who helped us, and especially to Octopus Restaurant at the Blue Hole who hosted our free lunch & kept us going!

Foul with Tehina |
This is such a delicious recipe. Foul is usually eaten with tehina salad on the side, but here it is already cooked with it. |

Cuisine: Egyptian
Main ingredients: Black beans, Tehina, Garlic
Time of preparation: 5 Minutes
Time of cooking: 5 minutes
Serving: 4
Ingredients:
3 Cups Black Beans, or 2 cans Americana beans
4 Tbsp Corn Oil Crystal, or olive oil
6 Tbsp Lemon Juice
2 Tbsp Tehina
4-5 Branches Parsley, chopped
2 Carrots, peeled
1-2 Tsp Cumin
1 Green Chili Pepper, cut into very small pieces or chili powder
Salt and Pepper
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan, heat beans over medium heat. Add tehina, garlic and chili pepper.
2. Add season beans with cumin, salt and pepper. Add little water.
3. Take off heat and add lemon juice. Taste to adjust seasoning.
4. Move to a serving bowl. Add oil and garnish with parsley on the surface
Tip: Blend beans in a blender then strain or strain beans through a tomato strainer to mash and get rid of beans crusts. Strained beans are easier to digest and more tasty. Do that before cooking beans and continue with the rest of the steps as stated.

8. Go to the Valley of the Kings
Riding a donkey, the main mode of transport for many Egyptians in the less urban areas, is a lot more comfortable than you might anticipate. From Luxors West Bank, trot along streams and native villages and into the vast, barren canyon that houses around 62 well-maintained, hieroglyph-covered tombs, where pharaohs and other folk began their journeys into the afterlife.
If you are not keen on donkeys, you might fancy a hot air balloon instead - and a birds-eye, sunrise view of the Valley of the Kings is something you will never forget.

Naama Bay is a resort; nonetheless, there are many diving spots in this area both to the North and South. In North Naama Bay, there are eight diving spots, Ras Ghamila, Ras Nasrani, Ras Bob, White Knight, Shark Bay, Far Garden, Middle Garden, and Near Garden.
Ras Ghamila: Diving in this spot is easy and pleasant. It is also a good place for night dive.
Sharks Bay: Unlike its name, sharks are not often found in this area. Most probably it was called the Sharks Bay because fishermen used to unload the sharks they caught on this bay. It is easily reached by land. Sharks Bay has a lovely beach which is crowded most of time. It is a good diving spot for beginners and allows a very good night dive.
Middle Garden: As its name implies is located between Far Garden and Near Garden. It is characterized with easy diving and it is a very good spot for beginners and inexperienced divers.
White Knight: a small bay that has mooring point; and so is well sheltered from the waves and wind.

What you will need:
1. 4-inch lightweight wooden box
(available at craft stores)
2. 2 equal lengths of ribbon
3. Key ring
4. Tack
5. Wood glue
6. Clothespins
7. Small pad of paper and a pencil or pen
How to make it:
1. Paint a 4-inch lightweight wooden box and four wooden clothespins and allow them to dry.
2. For a hanger, slide the ribbons through the key ring so that they are centered, then knot them together a little below the ring. Tack the four ribbon ends inside the box, one to each side.
3. Use wood glue to secure the clothespins to the outside of the box for holding notes securely in place.
4. Place a small pad of paper and a pencil or pen inside the box and hang it in your entryway or kitchen, where everyone in the family will see it daily.
